Summary

Austria has seen two grassroots democracy campaigns pushed by Radlobby to show their citizens how cycling friendly their politicians and infrastructure really are. The campaign "Stimme fürs Rad" (Vote for bicycles) gathered information about the opinion of Viennese politicians towards cycling and presented the findings online to allow Austrians to vote according to the cycle-friendliness of politicians. Furthermore, the campaign “Goldene Speiche“ (The golden spoke) awarded the best cycling infrastructure measure implemented in 2015, in an effort to reward policy makers for positive cycling decisions and move the conversation towards a more mutually beneficial relationship.
