The Network of Finnish Cycling Municipalities started in January 1997. Our members are now 29 towns and municipalities, including almost all of the largest cities in Finland, and 12 other membership organisations like road administration, consulting companies, universities and associations dealing with cycling and it’s circumstances. The network provides a range of co-operation options for municipalities, administration, NGOs as well as private enterprises
Our main objective is to promote cycling and raise its status within the overall traffic system in Finland. The aim of the Network is to develop and improve infrastructure of cycling at municipal level in urban and rural areas as well as to provide information and advance communication between different authorities, citizens and NGOs, and in this way promote cycling in Finland. Also promoting of cycling tourism is one of our tasks today. Ways of communication we have is publishing our cycling policy magazine “Poljin”(pedal in english) 10 issues / year as well as two websites, keeping mail-lists etc.
